Troy Link Obituary

Troy Dwayne Link, 74, received his final checkered flag as he entered Heaven on June 16, 2026.

Born on October 14, 1951, in Salem, Indiana, Troy was the son of the late Ember O. Link and Marjorie Eloise Link. He was a lifelong resident of Palmyra, Indiana, where he owned and operated Link Auto Service and Link Motor Sports. Following the passing of his father, Troy became the owner of Ember Link LLC Trucking Company.

Troy’s passion for racing began in 1956 at the age of five. He would sit in his fathers lap and steer the roadster around the track after his father's feature win. Growing up around the sport, he spent countless hours at the racetrack and developed a lifelong love of racing. While still in high school, he began fabricating and building race cars, purchasing his first roadster in 1970, which his father drove while he built his first Sprint car. Troy was known for doing nearly everything himself—from building the non-down tube chassis, which held his beloved Ford engine he built to painting the car and hauling it to races.

At the age of 26, Troy got behind the wheel for his first race in 1977 in Bloomington, Indiana. Over the years, he earned numerous feature wins and raced throughout Indiana, Illinois, Kentucky, and Ohio. He continued competing until the COVID pandemic led him to retire from racing. His dedication, craftsmanship, and love of the sport earned him the respect and friendship of countless fellow racers and fans.

In addition to racing, Troy was known for his strong work ethic, mechanical skill, and devotion to family and friends.

Troy was preceded in death by his parents and his half-sister, Jo Owens.

He is survived by his sister, Lynita Churchill (David) of Depauw, Indiana; his niece, Jessica Ollis (Josh) of Rockport, Indiana; his nephews, Carl D. Churchill (Brittany), John W. Churchill (Brianna), and Jacob R. Churchill; his great-nieces, Skyla and Brooklyn, Katelynn and Emma Churchill, Katherine and June Ollis, and Paisley and Emberleigh Churchill; his great-nephews, Dylan and Cody Churchill; his uncle, Charles Hoten; his aunt, Rose Mary Hoten of Fredericksburg, Indiana; and many cherished friends.
