Franklin Haas Melton

Franklin "Frank" Haas Melton, age 78, of Palmyra, Indiana, passed away on March 8, 2024, leaving behind a legacy of love, compassion, and a life well-lived.

Frank, born on September 3, 1945, to Sherrill and Lucile (Haas) Melton in New Albany, Indiana, was a man of many passions and talents. Educated at Morgan Township High School, where he graduated in the class of 1963, Frank's athletic prowess lead  the school to its first Sectional Championship in 1962, and later earned him an Athletic Scholarship to Bellarmine College, where he obtained a Bachelor's degree in Accounting. Basketball was not just a sport for Frank; it was a passion that accompanied him both in high school and college. 

He served as a Conscripted Veteran in the Vietnam War, a chapter of his life that left an indelible mark on him and those around him. After his service, Frank dedicated himself to serving his community, working diligently as a public employee for the Town of Palmyra until his well-deserved retirement.

Outside of his professional life, Frank's interests were diverse and vibrant. An avid fisherman and skilled mushroom and game hunter, he found solace and joy in nature. His passion for collecting Indian relics spoke to his appreciation for history and culture. Whether he was watching sports, playing cards, or lending a helping hand to those in need, Frank's presence brought warmth and positivity to every gathering.

In the hearts of those who knew him, Frank will forever be remembered for his kindness, generosity, and unwavering spirit. He is preceded in death by his parents, Sherrill "Skeet" and Lucile, and his sisters, Gleeanna Melton and Virginia Dale.

Frank leaves behind cherished memories and a loving family, including his brother Jerry Melton (Barbara) and sister Sheryl Melton, along with brother-in-law Richard Dale. He will also be deeply missed by his nieces Kimberly Dale and Jamie Longacre, his nephew Jerry Amy, along with their families.

Visitation to honor Frank's life will be held from 2 pm to 8 pm on Friday, March 15, 2024, and again on Saturday, March 16, 2024, from 10 am until the time of service at 12 pm at Love Funeral Home, followed by cremation.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to St. Jude Children's Hospital or the Disabled American Veterans Fund, organizations close to Frank's heart
